Apgar — visitor center to campground and back
Montana · Other separated ride
A short paved outing connects Apgar Visitor Center with Apgar Campground in Glacier National Park. The Park Service's mobility directions describe this branch as approximately a quarter mile one way: about half a mile out and back, with your parking-space approach extra. This is a small part of the Apgar bike-path network. It does not include the longer headquarters route, the village branch or a circuit through the campground's vehicle roads.

Start and route
Drive through the West Entrance and follow the brown signs to Apgar Visitor Center, near the Camas Road/Going-to-the-Sun Road intersection. Use the public visitor-center lot. Do not substitute the park headquarters mailing address or the former visitor-center location in the village.
Walk your bicycle through the lot. Facing the visitor center, find the paved bike path on the right side of the parking area. At the path choice, follow the right-hand branch toward Apgar Campground, as described in the Park Service's mobility directions. Stay on the designated paved multi-use path. At its campground connection, turn around and retrace the same branch to the visitor center; walk the lot approach again.
The left-hand village branch, lakefront paths, horse trails and hiking trails are outside this outing. If a sign or temporary diversion sends you onto a vehicle road, stop and check with park staff rather than silently extending the route. Do not enter campsite loops to make the ride longer. Stop and walk at any signed road or driveway interface; the Apgar network has road crossings and this guide does not promise a route free of vehicles.
Suitability and visit planning
NPS describes this branch as paved and wheelchair accessible; its bike-path descriptions and map classify the network as relatively level/easy. These are useful qualitative descriptions, not a measured maximum slope or a guarantee of smooth, dry pavement. Shared-path traffic, wildlife, wet leaves, snow and ice can change the experience. Choose daylight and a snow-free visit. Bicycles are prohibited on hiking trails and the designated ski trail; this is not a winter cycling recommendation.
The park operates year-round, while visitor-center staffing varies by season. The published 2026 fall schedule lists weekend visitor-center hours and weekday closures. That building schedule does not by itself close the path or establish overnight parking permission. Observe the lot and path signs. NPS lists visitor-center restrooms as open year-round and a bottle-filling station, but bring water in case service is interrupted.
Park admission applies. The reviewed fee page lists a seven-day private-vehicle pass at $35, or $25 November–April; that pass covers the vehicle's occupants. Entry by bicycle/foot is $20 per person age 16 or older, or $15 in winter. Applicable passes may cover entry. Non-US residents age 16 or older face an additional $100 fee unless covered by an eligible pass. The park is cashless; check the current fee page before visiting.
Yield to walkers, pass slowly and leave wildlife room. Follow current signs and the park's bicycle rules.
