Cedar Grove Park — short paved circuit — detailed guide

Source review: 2026-10-12. A dated source review does not guarantee current-day conditions.

A small park circuit for a relaxed pedal-bike outing or a little practice before a longer ride. Start at Cedar Grove Park, 5800 Highway 86 North, Hillsborough, NC 27278, walk from designated visitor parking to the lighted paved track, and ride one circuit around the main ballfield. Return to the same connection and walk back to your parking space.

The county advertises a one-third-mile paved walking track. The closed circuit in its public trail geometry measures approximately 0.30 miles, excluding the approach. Treat this as a short, approximate lap, not a measured fitness course. More laps are optional; one lap and a park stop make a complete outing.

Surface, permission and comfort

The current park page identifies the lighted track as paved, and the county's published trail record marks cycling permitted and rates the route Easy. Together, those sources support an ordinary pedal-bike prospect. The park page calls it a walking track, so expect walkers and give them priority. Follow posted direction and use signs; if local signs conflict with the directory's bicycle flag, follow the signs and postpone riding pending clarification.

“Easy” is a qualitative directory rating, not an independently measured maximum grade. The guide does not certify every parking-space approach as accessible. Ride gently, slow before passing, and step off to walk if the approach or a crowded section feels uncomfortable.

Use only the paved circuit. The park also has hiking trails, and its historical plan depicts a separate wooded walking route. Those paths are not additional bicycle miles in this outing. Keep off the playing fields and courts.

Finding and following the circuit

Use the park's signed visitor entrance and designated parking. The current county page supplies the address, while the historical master plan depicts parking near the paved track and picnic shelter. Walk the parking and driveway interfaces; their exact distance, current space layout and curb treatment have not been surveyed for this guide. Highway 86 is the arrival road, not part of the riding course.

At the track, follow the continuous paved perimeter around the main ballfield and return to your starting junction. There is no need to leave the park, cross the highway or take a wooded shortcut. Follow any posted circulation direction and stop clear of the path before returning to the parking connection.

The selected circuit's map-based distance estimate is about 0.30 miles. The county directory's approximately 0.309-mile total includes short connections, while the park page's one-third-mile description is a broader advertised reference. None establishes a precise parking-to-parking distance.

The linked master plan is printed April 2007 and has 2009 PDF metadata. It shows proposed amenities as well as existing ones; it is a historical layout reference, not a current as-built survey. The public GIS provides more recent route-reference data but does not prove today's pavement, signs or parking availability. This guide supplies no GPX or surveyed parking pin.

Hours and practical details

The current park page lists 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Follow posted seasonal limits and closures. Lighting does not extend opening hours. The county's older facilities policy allows ordinary use of unreserved, open park amenities and requires designated parking, but its event schedules and rental provisions do not replace this park's stated hours.

Restrooms, picnic facilities and playgrounds are listed at the park. Their daily operation has not been confirmed; bring water and make the ride independent of restroom availability. Shelter and athletic rentals are separate from this informal outing. An ordinary parking or cycling charge has not been independently established, so follow posted terms rather than applying rental prices to a bicycle lap.

The directory's “Existing Open” label is not a same-day inspection. Turn back for a barrier, maintenance, debris or damaged pavement. A reservation or busy game may also change access and pedestrian traffic. Keep the outing short enough to enjoy it without needing an alternative road route.
