Manhattan, Kansas · About 1 mile per lap · Paved · Ordinary pedal bicycle

Clarenburg Trail follows the edge of City Park, giving you a short outing that returns to the same place. The city rates the trail Easy. You ride beside lawns, mature trees and recreation areas, with nearby streets visible around the perimeter. It suits a relaxed lap when you want a modest distance and an easy way to repeat or finish the ride.

The path crosses park entrances where drivers enter and leave. Expect to slow or stop at these points. This guide stays on the perimeter trail; the longer Little Apple Loop shown on Manhattan’s bicycle map includes streets and other facilities and is a separate outing.

Arrive and join the path

Use designated City Park parking beside North Park Road, reached from Fremont Street at North Manhattan Avenue. Choose an available marked public space and check its signs before unloading. The park is bounded by Fremont Street, North 11th Street, Poyntz Avenue and North 14th Street. A general park address can send you to another entrance, so use the named northern approach.

Walk your bicycle north through the parking area toward the perimeter path just inside Fremont Street. This arrival includes a vehicle aisle; a separate protected walkway from every space has not been confirmed. Watch for moving and reversing cars. Join the park trail before reaching Fremont Street. You do not need to cross Fremont to begin the lap.

A 2020 city ordinance identified these public parking lots as free with a three-hour limit and no parking from 3–6 a.m., subject to posted exceptions. Those are historical terms, not confirmation of today’s signs or tariff. Park operating hours are also posted locally. Plan a daylight visit and obey current restrictions.

Ride the lap clockwise

From the northern path near North Park Road, head east with the park on your right. Follow the paved perimeter around the northeast corner, then south beside North 11th Street. Stay on the park side of the surrounding streets.

At the southeast corner, turn west along the park edge beside Poyntz Avenue. Continue around the southwest corner, then north beside North 14th Street. At the northwest corner, follow the path east beside Fremont Street until you reach your starting area.

The reviewed circuit has five park-road interfaces: North Park Road and Central Park Road at the northern edge, East Park Road at the eastern edge, East Park Road at Poyntz, and Central Park Road at North 14th near Humboldt. Look both ways at every entrance and give drivers time to see you. Current signs and crossing controls have not been inspected on site. Do not follow cars out onto a surrounding street or improvise a road detour around a closure.

Walk back through the parking area after the lap. If you want another circuit, first check that the path and entrances remain comfortable for you.

Distance, terrain and shared use

Use about 1 mile for planning. The city’s 2025 guide lists 1.0 mile; an internal check of the selected mapped circuit gives approximately 1.04 horizontal miles. The older 2016 guide listed 1.05 miles. The parking walk is extra and unmeasured.

The city’s Easy rating is qualitative. No maximum slope, ascent or accessibility certification is established here. Check pavement transitions and any spot that looks uncomfortable before riding through it.

Yield to people walking, give an audible warning before passing and leave room for children, pets and other park users. City rules set a 15 mph ceiling, with a lower speed whenever conditions require it. Walking your bicycle through a crowd or entrance may be the better choice.

The manager lists restrooms, but availability of particular buildings, drinking water and other services has not been confirmed. Bring what you need. The waterpark’s seasonal closure is separate from the perimeter trail’s status.

Before this draft is published

On October 16, 2026, the city’s public status layer stored Open for all 25 Clarenburg-named assets, including the corner alternatives. Those records carried April 2026 edit dates. They are not a same-day inspection. Fresh checks of posted parking terms, park hours, crossings, pavement and temporary restrictions remain necessary. No matching ride-preview video is approved.
