Denmark, Wisconsin · Up to 4 miles return · Compacted crusher dust / crushed stone bicycle rail-trail
Start: Devils River — Denmark depot return, Devils River State Trailhead, Pine Street and Railroad Avenue, Denmark, Wisconsin. Fresh village, county and DNR all explicitly identify public trail-user parking at the Denmark depot on Railroad Avenue. Walk from ordinary visitor spaces to the main path, respecting shelter reservations and any lot interface. The village office address is not the trailhead. Use designated ordinary visitor spaces, respect reserved spaces and walk through the lot to the signed main path. The address identifies a public facility, not a surveyed stall.
Ride: Follow the signed main path south on the signed crushed-stone Devils River main. Turn after 2 outward miles or before the first public-road crossing, work barrier, uncertain continuation or uncomfortable transition, whichever comes first; retrace. Walk any initial lot or access-drive interface. Do not use a road or private-property detour.
Distance: Chosen 4-mile maximum return, not the full regional corridor or a surveyed parking-to-parking distance. Earlier interfaces shorten the outing; parking walking is extra.
Permission and effort: Source-backed ordinary bicycle use on the designated improved main path; walking-only spurs and adjacent private property are excluded. DNR describes level grade and smooth surface. The village describes rolling hillside scenery, which does not itself establish a trail climb. This is qualitative trail guidance, not measured maximum slope.
Planning: County specifies dawn to dusk; respect posted lot and work closures. DNR explicitly says no Wisconsin state trail pass is needed here. Brown County nevertheless says bicycle users age 16+ need a permit without identifying it. Do not assume free cycling or substitute the standard state fee; check current posted local permit terms before riding. This minor fee uncertainty does not block an otherwise supported initial guide. Ordinary pedal bicycles on main trail. Yield and keep pets leashed eight feet or less. No camping or overnight parking permission inferred from long-term trail-user parking. Posted seasonal controls govern.
Access reviewed October 20, 2026 Central (October 21 UTC): Fresh owners confirm an established bicycle trail. DNR gives 15 miles while village/county give 16; neither is this capped return. Two Brown County miles are part of the corridor, not extra miles. Retained statewide notices had no specific match, not a local inspection. Snowmobile winter use is separate from comfortable bicycle conditions. This is a dated source review, not a field inspection or current-day all-clear. Postpone for snow, ice, high water, soft tread or barriers rather than improvising a bypass.
Bring water and choose suitable weather. Parking walking is extra. No surveyed parking-space pin or navigable GPX is supplied.
