Plainview, Minnesota · Up to 2 miles return · Paved bicycle rail-trail; parallel natural horse/snowmobile tread excluded

Start: Great River Ridge — Plainview short return, 3rd Street SW, Plainview, MN. Fresh DNR explicitly lists the public Plainview trailhead lot on 3rd Street SW. Walk from designated visitor spaces to the main paved path; in-town Elgin parking and County Road 9 head are different starts. No private storefront lot or exact surveyed stall inferred. Use designated ordinary visitor spaces, respect reserved spaces and walk through the lot to the signed main path. The address identifies a public facility, not a surveyed stall.

Ride: Follow the signed main path south on the paved main toward Elgin. Turn after 1 outward mile or before the first public-road crossing, work barrier, uncertain continuation or uncomfortable transition, whichever comes first; retrace. Walk any initial lot or access-drive interface. Do not use a road or private-property detour.

Distance: Chosen 2-mile maximum return, not the full regional corridor or a surveyed parking-to-parking distance. Earlier interfaces shorten the outing; parking walking is extra.

Permission and effort: Source-backed ordinary bicycle use on the designated improved main path; walking-only spurs and adjacent private property are excluded. DNR expressly describes the trail generally level and accessible. Qualitative support for this short selection, not a measured maximum grade or parking-ramp inspection.

Planning: Daylight within posted trailhead hours and closures; winter permissions do not guarantee usable bicycle pavement. DNR says no ordinary bicycle trail fee or pass. Horse and snowmobile permits concern their respective uses; Carley State Park vehicle admission is separate. Ordinary pedal bicycles on the main pavement. Yield and obey signs. Do not explore city streets or use the natural equestrian/snowmobile parallel tread to bypass work.

Access reviewed October 20, 2026 Central (October 21 UTC): Fresh October 6 owner alert schedules October 15–30 bridge construction near Viola,1.3 miles north of Silver Creek Road /0.7 mile south of 105th Avenue NE. This outing starts at the northern Plainview end and turns within one outward mile, before Elgin and the southern Viola work area. Any earlier local barrier still controls. October 30 is a forecast, not an actual reopening. Existing 13 paved miles are not future 15-mile Eyota/Carley extensions. This is a dated source review, not a field inspection or current-day all-clear. Postpone for snow, ice, high water, soft tread or barriers rather than improvising a bypass.

Bring water and choose suitable weather. Parking walking is extra. No surveyed parking-space pin or navigable GPX is supplied.
