Planning: DNR lists year-round use; choose daylight and obey current lot gates, closures and seasonal conditions. Cyclists age 16 and older need a personal Wisconsin state trail pass, retained current price $5 daily or $25 annual. Posted parking and vehicle terms are separate. Ordinary pedal bicycles on designated improved main. Yield, announce passes and leash pets eight feet or less. Do not use adjacent natural branches, roads or snowmobile bypasses. Winter trail permissions do not guarantee comfortable bicycle conditions.
Access reviewed October 20, 2026 Central (October 21 UTC): This existing four-mile Hillsboro corridor connects to the 400 at Union Center. The additional 400 legs toward Elroy or Wonewoc are separate routes and are not part of this capped return. Elroy–Sparta tunnel and CountyT bridge closures do not automatically close Hillsboro. Retained statewide notices were screened; absence of another matched notice is not a local field inspection. Current signs, work zones and actual tread govern. This is a dated source review, not a field inspection or current-day all-clear. Postpone for snow, ice, high water, soft tread or barriers rather than improvising a bypass.
Bring water and choose suitable weather. Parking walking is extra. No surveyed parking-space pin or navigable GPX is supplied.
