Wilmington, Delaware · Up to 3 miles return · Paved pathway and elevated bicycle boardwalk

Start: DuPont Environmental Education Center public trailhead, DuPont Environmental Education Center, 1400 Delmarva Lane, Wilmington, DE. Use designated DEEC trailhead spaces, which are limited, and walk to the signed JAM trail. The published map marks public trail access here. If full, choose another documented public start for a separately planned outing; business lots and reserved visitor spaces are not substitutes.

Ride: Follow the signed JAM trail west across the marsh boardwalk and bicycle bridge, then toward New Castle. Turn at 1.5 outward miles or earlier before a highway tunnel, public-road crossing, barrier or uncomfortable ramp. Retrace. Exclude the small nature-center pond loop, northern Riverwalk and on-road Historic New Castle links.

Distance: Chosen maximum three-mile return from the JAM junction. The 5.5-mile JAM and 7.9-mile regional journey include wider scopes; neither is this ride length.

Permission and effort: The operator and trail partner expressly welcome bicycles on the JAM shared-use trail. The trail partner rates JAM Easy. Boardwalk and bridge approaches can rise, and their steepest grade is unmeasured. Walk an uncomfortable transition and turn earlier if needed.

Planning: Use daylight within posted trailhead access; retained riverfront guidance is dawn–dusk. DEEC admission is free. Check posted parking limits; center business hours do not determine all outdoor access. Yield to walkers, keep pets leashed and obey signs. E-bike class eligibility is not established by this ordinary bicycle guide.

Access reviewed October 20, 2026 Central (October 21 UTC): Current operator and trail partner pages retain the JAM trailhead. The partner warns highway-tunnel lights may fail; this short course turns before entering a tunnel. These sources are not a field surface or work-zone clearance. Stop at floodwater, slippery boardwalk, barriers or new restrictions. Center holiday hours and activities do not establish trail closure.

Bring water and choose suitable weather. Parking walking is extra. No surveyed parking-space pin or navigable GPX is supplied.
