Murdock Canal Trail — Lindon View short south return — detailed guide

Source review: 2026-10-12. A dated source review does not guarantee current-day conditions.

Lindon, Utah · about 0.9 miles riding · out-and-back · paved main trail

Start at the Lindon View trailhead, walk your bicycle past the restroom building to the main Murdock Canal Trail, ride south to a turnaround before East Center Street, and return on the same path. The mapped walking approach adds roughly 0.1 mile for both directions, plus movement within the parking lot. Expect about a mile of total movement rather than an exact stall-to-stall distance.

This is a complete, qualified editorial draft for ordinary pedal bicycles. It remains not approved for launch until current parking terms, approach, pavement, turnaround and services are checked and the guide is integrated into the USA site.

Why this short selection

The Murdock Canal Trail follows a covered canal through several Utah County cities. This outing chooses a small piece in Lindon rather than presenting the whole regional corridor as one effortless ride. It gives a new rider a simple same-path return, a public trailhead and a clear stopping boundary before a road crossing.

The setting is a neighborhood corridor with landscaped yards and open stretches beside the path. Stay on the main paved trail. Nearby neighborhood paths, the Lindon Heritage Trail and foothill routes are separate choices, and the rocky Dry Canyon and Bonneville Shoreline trails are outside this outing.

Finding the public parking

The city’s facility and pavilion pages identify Lindon View Park at 780 East, 300 North. Its general park directory instead prints “80 East, 300 North.” That conflicting entry should not guide your arrival.

For a practical vehicle approach, use East 400 North to North 780 East, then follow 780 East south to the signed Lindon View trailhead parking lot at the end of the street. Public road-name data and dated aerial imagery place this lot east of the canal path. The city’s facility map marker falls over nearby residential property west of the path; it is not the parking entrance. Do not follow that marker into a residential cul-de-sac or use a private driveway as trail parking.

The city’s 2020 plan identifies Lindon View as a regional Murdock trailhead with parking for approximately 13 vehicles. That is dated capacity information, not a current stall count or a promise of space. Use a legal public visitor stall and check current signs for any duration, fee or temporary restrictions. No surveyed parking pin is supplied.

From the lot to the riding path

Walk your bike through the lot and along the paved park connection by the restroom and pavilion building. Follow it toward the Murdock main path on the west side. This approach is part of the visit, but it is excluded from the 0.9-mile riding figure.

Follow the actual pavement and signs, and walk any part of the approach that feels uncomfortable. Avoid shortcuts across the grass or neighboring property.

At the main trail, turn south, away from 400 North. Begin riding once clear of the parking and approach interfaces.

Ride to the Center Street boundary and back

Follow the paved Murdock mainline as it curves through the neighborhood corridor toward East Center Street. Keep to the main path at side-path junctions. Watch for other users and neighborhood access points; neither the GIS nor the aerial inspection rules out occasional vehicle or maintenance interfaces.

Turn around in a clear place before reaching Center Street’s crossing area, staying away from the curb, crosswalk and traffic. Stop earlier if that gives you a better place to turn. If you cannot turn comfortably without entering the crossing area, shorten the ride.

Return north on the same main trail. At the original Lindon View connection, leave the riding path and walk your bicycle past the building and through the parking area. Do not continue north to cross 400 North, or south across Center Street, as part of this outing.

Distance and effort

The selected main-path geometry measures about 0.45 mile each way, or 0.90 mile riding round trip. Use about 0.9 mile, allowing roughly 0.8–1.1 miles as the precise starting and turning places vary. The mapped approach adds about 0.09 mile walked round trip, with parking-lot walking still extra.

These are horizontal map calculations, not wheel-surveyed distances. The full regional trail’s reported 17-plus miles, Lindon’s approximately 1.6-mile section and neighboring municipal totals describe different extents; none is the distance of this short return.

Utah’s GIS classifies the two selected paved main-path features as beginner. That supports a modest-effort prospect for this bounded ride, but it does not establish a maximum slope, an ascent total, an accessibility certification or the current condition of ramps and pavement. Walk any incline or uneven section that is uncomfortable. The separate Lehi subsection’s moderate rating does not describe this selected Lindon leg.

Season, services and source dates

The 2020 city plan describes year-round use of the Murdock trail. That does not guarantee winter pavement conditions or year-round water and restrooms. Lindon’s current general park guidance says restrooms are winterized by October 15 and reopen toward the end of April. The precise operating season at this jointly owned county trailhead remains to be confirmed; bring water and plan without depending on an open restroom.

The facility is listed as non-reservable, and the pavilion is described as public and first-come. Those statements do not establish unlimited parking or an ordinary bicycle fee policy. Use daylight and obey posted hours and controls.

Research was checked October 12, 2026. The aerial citation at the head identifies imagery from June 1, 2025; the citation near the Center Street turnaround identifies May 27, 2025. The images support orientation and connection review, not an October 2026 inspection. Likewise, an “existing” GIS status is not a same-day closure check. If the selected path or approach is blocked, postpone or shorten the outing rather than substituting a neighborhood-road detour.
