Andover, Kansas · Up to 4 miles return · Concrete / packed limestone main rail-trail

Start: Redbud Trailhead Park public parking, Redbud Trailhead Park, 1601 North Main Street, Andover, KS. City expressly identifies this public trailhead park and parking. Walk the signed connection from designated spaces onto the main Redbud, stopping for lot aisles. The caretaker warns that some other entries have no vehicle parking; do not use private property or road shoulders.

Ride: Follow the main Redbud east toward the Prairie Creek direction. Turn after two outward miles or before the first road, barrier, loose tread or uncomfortable approach; retrace. Exclude Wichita’s western construction reach, the distant US 54/400 bridge and unfinished final Augusta extension.

Distance: Chosen four-mile maximum return. City six-mile and combined sixteen-mile descriptions have different extents; the proposed Augusta connection is not added.

Permission and effort: City and volunteer caretaker expressly describe the improved route as suitable for ordinary bicycles. Effort assessment is an editorial inference from the short railway course and family cycling designation, not a measured slope claim. Expect gradual rises and more resistance on limestone; walk or turn if uncomfortable.

Planning: Choose daylight within posted trail and public-lot access. No current ordinary parking tariff established; obey posted terms. Yield to walkers, announce passes and follow posted controls at each vehicle interface.

Access reviewed October 20, 2026 Central (October 21 UTC): Current caretaker places the established eastern end at Santa Fe Lake Road beyond the new highway bridge, superseding the city’s older highway-end forecast. This short ride does not require that bridge or claim the final Augusta connection complete. Wichita’s Woodlawn–Rock closure through a forecast early 2027 applies to a different western reach.

Bring water and choose suitable weather. Parking walking is extra. No surveyed parking-space pin or navigable GPX is supplied.
