This is a short return, not the Ecru–Ingomar course or a ride to Houston.

Access note. Short southbound library return only. Bridge and surface improvements elsewhere remain under review. Turn before the first bridge, road crossing or work barrier; do not attempt the full trail on the strength of this guide. Respect any library expansion controls.

Start and parking approach

Start: Jennie Stephens Smith Library, 219 King Street, New Albany, MS.

The trail manager directs visitors to the city parking lot at the Union County Library via Carter Avenue. Use only the open, designated public trail parking; walk the final lot-to-trail connection. The library also lists an expansion project as planned, so obey any construction fences, reserved spaces or changed access signs. Do not park at nearby businesses without permission.

Distance and route

Selected outing: Up to 1 mile return. Format: Out and back.

Surface and effort

Asphalt rail-trail; individual bridge decks can differ. Gentle former-railroad outing with access ramps and local interfaces; no surveyed maximum slope. No maximum-slope survey or accessibility certification is supplied.

Shared use and interfaces

The manager’s March 13, 2026 rules allow class 1 and 2 e-bikes subject to special operating rules, including an age minimum of 16 and a 15 mph maximum. Consult the linked rules for yielding requirements. Electric golf carts can also be present; do not assume the trail is exclusively bicycles and pedestrians.

Yield to pedestrians, slow at blind bends and junctions, and walk uncomfortable ramps. Authorized maintenance vehicles may appear. Stay on the signed shared-use trail and never improvise a road detour around a barrier.

Hours, costs and current access

Trail rules generally allow use from 30 minutes before sunrise until 30 minutes after sunset; choose daylight and obey any shorter posting. Library bicycle checkout has separate opening hours and library-card requirements. No ordinary trail admission fee is established in the reviewed sources; follow posted parking terms. The library advertises free bicycle and helmet checkout with a library card; availability and return deadlines are separate.

Access note, October 22, 2026: Short southbound library return only. Bridge and surface improvements elsewhere remain under review. Turn before the first bridge, road crossing or work barrier; do not attempt the full trail on the strength of this guide. Respect any library expansion controls.

Full Ecru–Ingomar route, remaining bridge/surface work chainages and library expansion impacts remain routine maintenance items; a June Pontotoc reopening is not completion of every project. This initial guide is supported by published access and route evidence; conditions have not been field-checked. No full-corridor reopening is claimed.

Map reference

The marker is a labeled planning reference, not a surveyed bicycle entrance or parking stall. Use the written start for the final approach. No navigable route track is provided.
