Tempe, Arizona · Up to 2 miles out and back · Concrete shared-use path

Start: Tempe Beach Park surface parking lot, Tempe Beach Park Surface Lot, 250 W Rio Salado Parkway, Tempe, AZ. Downtown Tempe Authority identifies this ordinary public surface lot and rates, with event exceptions. Walk the public park approach to the south-shore concrete path; do not use a marina ramp or private development lot.

Ride: From the lot, walk into Beach Park and onto the main concrete south-shore path. Ride west toward Tempe Center for the Arts, with the lake on your right. Turn after one mile outward, before the Elmore pedestrian bridge access if reached sooner, or at any barrier or unsuitable section. Return the same way. Stay on the south shore and the concrete bicycle path; do not cross Mill Avenue, ride a road lane, take a staircase, cross a bridge or drop onto the lower decomposed-granite walking terrace. Walk busy plaza and access ramps.

Distance: Chosen maximum two-mile return. This is not a five- or 7.5-mile whole-lake circuit; published whole-lake extents differ. Parking walking additional.

Surface, permission and effort: The city describes concrete lakeside paths for bicycling. Its existing south-bank facilities are distinct from proposed north-bank links. Tempe Tourism describes the lake path as flat and paved. That is general terrain information; approaches, plaza transitions and ramps may still need walking. No maximum slope or accessibility throughout is certified.

Planning: 5 a.m.–midnight for lake paths; daylight recommended, with posted lot and event restrictions. Downtown Tempe Authority lists $2/hour Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–6 p.m., otherwise free under its published schedule effective October 18, 2021. Special events can change availability and prices; pay the current posted rate. Share slowly with walkers and runners, keep clear of rentals and waterfront activity, and give others room to turn. This guide does not establish e-bike class rules. Boating permits do not apply to this land ride. Swimming and wading are prohibited.

Access: Reviewed October 20, 2026: current owner and tourism descriptions support the existing shore path. The bounded news/project search found no closure specific to this short south-bank outing. Indian Bend Wash upgrades and a proposed northeast link are separate. Event setup can restrict the park and parking. The dated description does not clear today’s event setup or every access point.

Choose comfortable weather, bring water and check current signs before setting out. No parking-space pin, surveyed route or GPX is supplied.
